Hey everyone,

It's nearly Easter and I wanted to take a moment to thank you all. Every day the campaign continues to gain new backers and this is thanks to all of you, so thank you.

We have just under 2 weeks left and there's still a lot more I want to put in the box so let's keep spreading the word and see how many more stretch goals we can unlock.

Herith's Defence is just around the corner!

 The big picture

A few people have been asking about my plans for the future and where I see The City of Kings going, so I put together a little video talking about my dreams.

  Side quests

I also released a video talking about all the different side quests in The City of Kings, if you'd like to know more about them then this will tell you everything you need to know.

The cooperative adventure

Remember the cooperative adventure? Well we have now completed 7 turns and it is time for Team Facebook to make their next move!

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter!

Engraved dice

We have just passed the half way point of the campaign and unlocked our 22nd stretch goal: Engraved Dice! Thank you for continuing to make this game even better, I can't wait for these to get made.

A cooperative adventure

Today a new adventure begins, one that will require all of you to work together if you are to succeed.

There will be 4 teams:

At random periods of time throughout the next 2 weeks I am going to post an update to either Kickstarter, Facebook, Twitter or Board Game Geek. Players will need to vote on which way their character moves by responding to the post, saying either:

Up, Right, Down or Left.

There must be a clear winner, each person may only vote once (per turn) and a direction needs at least 2 votes to count.

Each time you move onto a new card I will turn it over, revealing the artwork underneath. But of course, you won't be able to see it until you've moved to the next spot! Can you turn them all over?

First up: Team Kickstarter!

So, where you would like Earthshaker to go?

Run through: Combat focussed scenario

I have uploaded a new run through to YouTube:

This is a full 1 hour session demonstrating a more challenging scenario that focuses on combat. If you haven't watched any of the other run throughs then I recommend you watch this one first:

The story
about 7 years ago – Fri, Apr 14, 2017 at 02:49:20 PM

Happy Monday everyone!

I have returned from Stabcon and I wanted to thank everyone who came and said hello, it was great to meet you.

I also had the pleasure of watching Mike from Who Dares Rolls play The City of Kings and he said "it took him back to his World of Warcraft days". I'm looking forward to his write up later this week.

The story

We have spent the last 2 years building a world for The City of Kings, designing characters, writing stories and detailing events spanning 13,755 years. We wanted to go further than a theme and design a world which you can immerse yourself in for years to come.

As you play through the game you will experience the Cloud Keep War and learn about the key characters who came together for one last fight, as they tried to stop Vesh from claiming the entire world.

You will encounter survivors in need of assistance and they will offer you side quests further describing the world you are in.

Thanks to unlocked stretch goals we can now add even more lore to the game by including back stories for each of the characters and all of the enemy factions.

Over time we plan to release more stories, written materials, and much more as we continue to share this world with you.

Who goes first?

It's time to answer the question! Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas for our "who should go first" question, you can now vote for your favourite here.

Quest unlocked: Ouch! That hurt.
about 7 years ago – Fri, Apr 14, 2017 at 02:49:10 PM

Fire falls from the sky as hounds chase your workers into Oak Wood, a Grimnir teleports to your location and begins its attack.

Earlier today we unlocked our ‘create your own’ stretch goal and we are now well on our way towards unlocking those engraved dice!

But what comes next I hear you asking?

Our next 4 stretch goals

£172,000: 5 more side quests

Unlocking 5 more side quests will bring the total to 100. That's 100 tiny stories telling you more about the world around you. Not to mention a boat load of extra objectives for you to complete!

£178,000: 1 new equipment card

 £183,000: Bigger ability bags

Now those of us with bigger hands will be able to reach deep into the corners of the bags! And everyone else? They'll find it much easier to shake the contents, guaranteeing something new comes out each time you draw a token.

£190,000: Creature: Grimnir

I am pleased to introduce you to the Grimnir:

 New review

Who Dares Rolls have released a great review for The City of Kings and touch on the similarities to Warcraft, how much simpler the game was to pickup than first imagined and how a lot of people are going to regret missing out on the Kickstarter (their words not mine!).

If you have any friends who like World of Warcraft or any other MMORPG then I would love for you to send them this review and help us unlock some more stretch goals!

Quest unlocked: Ouch! That hurt.

Fire falls from the sky as hounds chase your workers into Oak Wood, a Grimnir teleports to your location and begins its attack.

Objective:
The City of Kings is filled with creature abilities and I want to know, if you were to design an ability for a creature what would it be and what would it do?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to design the game mechanics! I just want to know what horrific things you would like to see in The City of Kings.

Some examples would be cast fire balls, teleport, mind control and enrage!

Who goes first

We have already had over 300 people respond to our “who goes first” survey, vote now!

Reddit AMA

Next week on Wednesday 19th at 12:00 ET (17:00 BST) we will be doing an AMA on Reddit answering your questions and hopefully introducing a few more people to the game. Closer to the time I'll write up some details but I hope you will join us there!

Quest unlocked: Who wants to go first?
about 7 years ago – Mon, Apr 10, 2017 at 05:02:15 AM

Over 800 people have joined us on our adventure and there is one burning question, who gets to go first?

Earlier today we reached the 24 hour mark having raised over £70,000 with 800 backers, incredible! Thank you to everyone who has helped to spread the word and get us to this point, we have another 29 days and I can’t wait to see where we end up!

We have already unlocked 10 stretch goals and we are well on our way to number 11!

  • All cardboard has been upgraded to a thickness of 2mm.
  • 5 extra side quests have been added to the game.
  • An achievement sheet has been added allowing you to record when you finally complete a story or scenario.
  • All cards have been upgraded to black core.
  • 2 extra factions have been added to the game.
  • 1 extra scenario has been unlocked, bringing the total up to 10.
  • The ability bags have been upgraded to velvet.
  • We will emboss the box.
  • The Makar has been added to the game!
  • All cards will now have a linen finish.
A special Makar template and standee has been added to the game.
A special Makar template and standee has been added to the game.

Moving forward, one of my goals is to start adding more of the worlds lore into the game. The next stretch goal will add the back stories of each character to the back of the character sheets and there is so much more to come!

Quest unlocked: Who wants to go first?

During the course of the campaign I will be opening up quests to all of our supporters, looking for a hero brave enough to take on the challenge.

Objective

Suggest how players should decide who will go first when playing The City of Kings.

Please write your suggestions in the comment area of this update! The top ideas will be added to our own and sent out in a survey where we hope to pick the official method for answering the age old question: Who wants to go first?
