Latest Updates from Our Project:

Quest unlocked: Ouch! That hurt.
5 months ago – Fri, Apr 14, 2017 at 02:49:10 PM

Fire falls from the sky as hounds chase your workers into Oak Wood, a Grimnir teleports to your location and begins its attack.

Earlier today we unlocked our ‘create your own’ stretch goal and we are now well on our way towards unlocking those engraved dice!

But what comes next I hear you asking?

Our next 4 stretch goals

£172,000: 5 more side quests

Unlocking 5 more side quests will bring the total to 100. That's 100 tiny stories telling you more about the world around you. Not to mention a boat load of extra objectives for you to complete!

£178,000: 1 new equipment card

 £183,000: Bigger ability bags

Now those of us with bigger hands will be able to reach deep into the corners of the bags! And everyone else? They'll find it much easier to shake the contents, guaranteeing something new comes out each time you draw a token.

£190,000: Creature: Grimnir

I am pleased to introduce you to the Grimnir:

 New review

Who Dares Rolls have released a great review for The City of Kings and touch on the similarities to Warcraft, how much simpler the game was to pickup than first imagined and how a lot of people are going to regret missing out on the Kickstarter (their words not mine!).

If you have any friends who like World of Warcraft or any other MMORPG then I would love for you to send them this review and help us unlock some more stretch goals!

Quest unlocked: Ouch! That hurt.

Fire falls from the sky as hounds chase your workers into Oak Wood, a Grimnir teleports to your location and begins its attack.

Objective:
The City of Kings is filled with creature abilities and I want to know, if you were to design an ability for a creature what would it be and what would it do?

Don’t worry, you don’t need to design the game mechanics! I just want to know what horrific things you would like to see in The City of Kings.

Some examples would be cast fire balls, teleport, mind control and enrage!

Who goes first

We have already had over 300 people respond to our “who goes first” survey, vote now!

Reddit AMA

Next week on Wednesday 19th at 12:00 ET (17:00 BST) we will be doing an AMA on Reddit answering your questions and hopefully introducing a few more people to the game. Closer to the time I'll write up some details but I hope you will join us there!

Quest unlocked: Who wants to go first?
5 months ago – Mon, Apr 10, 2017 at 05:02:15 AM

Over 800 people have joined us on our adventure and there is one burning question, who gets to go first?

Earlier today we reached the 24 hour mark having raised over £70,000 with 800 backers, incredible! Thank you to everyone who has helped to spread the word and get us to this point, we have another 29 days and I can’t wait to see where we end up!

We have already unlocked 10 stretch goals and we are well on our way to number 11!

  • All cardboard has been upgraded to a thickness of 2mm.
  • 5 extra side quests have been added to the game.
  • An achievement sheet has been added allowing you to record when you finally complete a story or scenario.
  • All cards have been upgraded to black core.
  • 2 extra factions have been added to the game.
  • 1 extra scenario has been unlocked, bringing the total up to 10.
  • The ability bags have been upgraded to velvet.
  • We will emboss the box.
  • The Makar has been added to the game!
  • All cards will now have a linen finish.
A special Makar template and standee has been added to the game.
A special Makar template and standee has been added to the game.

Moving forward, one of my goals is to start adding more of the worlds lore into the game. The next stretch goal will add the back stories of each character to the back of the character sheets and there is so much more to come!

Quest unlocked: Who wants to go first?

During the course of the campaign I will be opening up quests to all of our supporters, looking for a hero brave enough to take on the challenge.

Objective

Suggest how players should decide who will go first when playing The City of Kings.

Please write your suggestions in the comment area of this update! The top ideas will be added to our own and sent out in a survey where we hope to pick the official method for answering the age old question: Who wants to go first?

Hoodrah Kelraz has captured Cloud Keep
5 months ago – Mon, Apr 10, 2017 at 05:01:57 AM

It hasn’t been long since we opened the city gates but it looks like something has gotten the attention of Vesh! Perhaps it was the 1,100 of you who decided to all turn up at the same time? Nice planning guys...

We have just passed the £100,000 mark which is an incredible milestone, so thank you all once again for your continuing support!

We have unlocked even more stretch goals and now your character sheets will come with full character posters and a short back story on the back of them!

We have also unlocked some extra position cards and Hoodrah Kelraz will be arriving in your box and waiting for you at Cloud Keep.

Reward breakdown

A few people have been asking for some extra information about the dexterity micro expansion and quick setup trays so I have created a full break down of each of the rewards here:

Quest: Who wants to go first?
I am still hoping to get some more brave heroes to join our open quest, make sure you add your thoughts in the comments before the next quest begins!

Spreading the word
We are now number 5 on the Board Game Geek hotness charts which is incredible, thank you! Let’s keep spreading the word and see if we can keep getting higher.

Upcoming information and videos
There are a few things I am planning on doing soon, including:

  • Recording a video about side quests
  • Writing an update about the clock
  • Recording a run through of a more complex combat scenario

Is there anything else you would like to know more about?

I am grateful for all the feedback and help to date, thanks for being such great adventurers!

- Frank

Quest unlocked: What’s that over there?
5 months ago – Mon, Apr 10, 2017 at 05:01:44 AM

What a strange looking creature, I’ve not seen anything like that before… Do you know what it is?

As the end of our first weekend approaches I continue to be amazed by the way the project is growing, we are now over 400% funded! We are sitting in 4th place on the Board Game Geek hotness charts and the word continues to spread, so thank you.

I am pleased to say we have now unlocked our 16th stretch goal adding the Beggar’s Boots to the equipment deck!

We have also unlocked 5 more side quests and even more lore, so now each creature template will come with faction lore on the back.

Building a world
The City of Kings is more than just a game, it is a world that I have been building for the last 2 years. Today I would like to invite you all to submit your ideas for the next race we add into this world and perhaps feature in a future game.

Quest unlocked:

What’s that over there? What a strange looking creature, I’ve not seen anything like that before… Do you know what it is?

Objective:

Most of the races in The City of Kings have been inspired by the animal kingdom and I want to know, if you were to add a new race into our world:

  • What animal (or animals) would it be inspired by?
  • What unique features would it have?
  • What are its strengths and weaknesses?
  • Would they be good guys or bad guys?

Please write your ideas in the comment area of this update!

Note. If we think any of the ideas would fit our world, we may try to introduce them into the story in future games. Giving you credit of course.

The Lost Blade has been found!
5 months ago – Mon, Apr 10, 2017 at 05:01:19 AM

After days of looking the Lost Blade has finally be found!

We have also increased the size of the scenario cards and gained 6 more stat bars, allowing us to add more lore and more creatures to the game.

With 19 stretch goals unlocked (crazy!) I think it’s about time we slowed down… Not because I want to stop putting stuff in the box! But because something horrific has started coming this way…

I think it’s a troll?

Open quests
We currently have 2 open quests and will be closing one up soon to make way for quest number 3!

Upcoming videos
The 2 videos I promised in my last update will be here soon, apologies they took longer than I had hoped but there were a few technical problems.

Rulebook
A few people have asked where they can send feedback for the rulebook so I have created a post here for any comments you might have.

1,500 backers

I’m not sure what I can say, you guys are incredible!
Let’s keep this going, spread the word, tell your friends and let’s unlock another 20 stretch goals!
